Your Rights

We know the thought of being a pregnant teen is overwhelming (click here for early pregnancy symptoms). If you’re a minor, you may have questions about your rights.

Can your parents or anyone force you to do anything? Legally, a pregnant teen has the same rights as an adult when it comes to making decisions for their unborn child. That also means you have the responsibility to make the best decision you can for both of you. That’s where we can help.

You probably have many questions, and we can help find answers. It is important to take time to think about what is the best option for you.  Take your time. We can offer a laboratory quality test to confirm that you are pregnant. We can also help you gather the facts you need to make an informed decision.

Telling Parents

If you know you’re pregnant, the thought of telling your parents may make you nervous.

Perhaps it may be easier to tell one of your parents rather than both at the same time.

In our experience, most parents who end up being supportive react to the news with disappointment or even anger, but it is important to know that these feelings will likely be temporary. Let’s face it, your parents are afraid too. Sometimes they fear they will be parents all over again when they thought they were almost done. If you want, we can help stand by you when you deliver the news about your pregnancy.  Many parents learn to share love and support.

We have also found that if you choose to parent your child, there are support systems for continuing with your education.

You do not need to quit school. Some school districts offer home study programs or daycare centers. Pregnancy is not an obstacle to completing your education.

Abortion and Relationships

If you are considering an abortion, take time to get the facts before you decide. You should make your choice based on your needs and your health. If you make a decision based on what your boyfriend or husband wants, this may damage your relationship.

Take time to consider what you really want for yourself and not what everyone around you wants. You are the one who must live with the decision.
